The Ending to the Dallas Stars vs New York Islanders game had a lot happen. Will Mikko Rantanen face a suspension for his hit? Also, Patrick Roy was livid after the play, and Connor Bedard’s Team Canada hopes might not become a reality.
All that and more on this edition of Deen’s Daily — November 19.
Colorado Hockey Now
It was an off day for the Avs on Tuesday, as they prepare to close out their homestand against the best road team in the NHL on Thursday. Before Colorado hosts the New York Rangers, it’ll hold one more full-team practice on Wednesday.
I’m curious to see what the latest is for Logan O’Connor and Valeri Nichushkin. I also think Joel Kiviranta is slowly working his way closer to a return sometime in the next month.
And then there’s the goaltending question. Who starts on Thursday?

Mikko Rantanen: It was total chaos to end the Stars, Islanders game on Tuesday. The Islanders led 3-2 heading into the final two minutes of regulation. Dallas pulled its goalie, and while playing 6-on-5, Mikko Rantanen pushed Alex Romanov into the boards from just below the goal line.
Rantanen was given a five-minute major for boarding and was ejected. Patrick Roy was livid and letting Rantanen have it as Romanov was being helped off the ice. But it didn’t end there.
Twenty-eight seconds remained on the clock and Dallas was shorthanded and still trying to tie the game. Their coach pulled the goalie to play 5-on-5, and they actually got the puck past Dvid Rittich with 0.1 seconds on the clock. Rittich was livid, as he believed that Jason Robertson should’ve been called for goalie interference.
The play was reviewed by the situation room and was overturned. The Islanders won 3-2, and now we wonder what happens with Rantanen. Will he get suspended? We shall see. Here’s a replay of the play, along with Patrick Roy raging at Rantanen after the fact.
