Two teams desperate for wins meet up in an anticipated rematch on Saturday night, as the Edmonton Oilers visit the Florida Panthers in a rematch of last year’s Stanley Cup Final.

This is the first of two meetings this season between the Panthers and Oilers. Saturday marks the first time the two will face off since Florida clinched its second Cup in a row at the Oilers’ expense last spring.

Things have not been easy on the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions in the early going of the 2025-26 season. With the loss of captain Aleksander Barkov for the entire year, as well as missing out on their sparkplug in Matthew Tkachuk, it has been difficult for the Panthers to find consistency in the first month of the campaign.

The Panthers have looked like one of the better teams in the league in spurts, including picking up solid wins over the Vegas Golden Knights and Washington Capitals last week. However, the team was served some humble pie last Saturday, losing to the rival Tampa Bay Lightning on home ice, 3-1. Even though they are above .500, Florida finds itself outside of a playoff spot after beating the Vancouver Canucks on Monday.

The Oilers have also been a tough team to watch thus far. Even though they have scoring phenoms in Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, the team’s goaltending struggles have hurt them all season, including in a 7-4 drubbing at the hands of the Washington Capitals on Wednesday.
