The Ottawa Senators received a helping hand from Thomas Chabot this weekend.
The veteran defenceman and alternate captain was scheduled to return to the Senators lineup for the game against the San Jose Sharks on Saturday night at the SAP Center.
After missing three games because of an upper-body core muscle ailment from the first period of a Nov. 11 contest against the Dallas Stars, Chabot resumed skating before the Senators left for California on Monday and was on the ice for practice Wednesday in Anaheim.

Chabot also took part in an optional skate in San Jose on Friday along with blueliner Nikolas Matinpalo, who left Thurday’s 3-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks with an unspecified ailment in the third period.
Chabot was expected to be paired with Nick Jensen against the Sharks.
The Senators sent defenceman Lassi Thomson back to their American Hockey League affiliate in Belleville on Saturday morning. He had been called up to be available as the club’s seventh blueliner on the current road trip.
The original timetable for Chabot’s return was supposed to be at least two weeks, but he had been feeling better. Matinpalo was a healthy scratch against San Jose.

Those weren’t the only moves the Senators made on Saturday.
Winger Olle Lycksell, who had been placed in concussion protocol and missed five games, cleared waivers on Saturday at 2 p.m. and was assigned to Belleville.
