Eagle-eyed hockey fans may have noticed that Mikael Granlund’s goal on Tuesday — the second one; he scored three in the Stars’ Game 4 win — looked awfully familiar.

With the game vs. Winnipeg tied 1-1 and time winding down in the second period, Granlund escaped on a 2-on-1 into the offensive zone and, while eyeing Roope Hintz to his left, no-looked a wrist shot right past the glove of Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck.

If you happened to be paying attention to Team Finland’s run during the 4-Nations Faceoff tournament in February, you might have seen Granlund’s goal on Tuesday and sat up in your chair like the Leonardo DiCaprio meme.

The goal was quite similar — nearly identical, in fact — to Granlund’s overtime winner during the round robin portion of the international tournament in a game against Finland’s biggest rival, Sweden.

With the Finns and the Swedes tied 3-3, Granlund broke away with the puck on another 2-on-1 and, this team feigning a pass to Finnish teammate Niko Mikkola, fired another no-look wrist shot past Swedish goalie Linus Ullmark. The goal was also Granlund’s second of the game, and it lifted Finland to their only win of the tournament.

Coincidentally, the first teammate to greet Granlund after his game-winner was fellow Finn, Mikko Rantanen. Granlund had been with the Stars for two weeks at that point after his trade from San Jose, and Rantanen wouldn’t be far behind — he was traded to Dallas from Carolina in early March.

Rantanen has obviously come up huge for the Stars thus far in the playoffs, but it was Granlund’s turn in Dallas’ Game 4 win.
