Multiple key executives were spotted taking in the Toronto Maple Leafs vs Montreal Canadiens game.
Both the Maple Leafs and Canadiens have been mentioned as teams that could enter trade talks soon.
According to David Pagnotta of ‘The Fourth Period’, two executives are taking in the Leafs game against the Montreal Canadiens, and it’s two teams that could lead to a deal.
At the game is Minnesota Wild general manager Bill Guerin and St. Louis Blues Vice President of Hockey Operations Peter Chiarelli.
Guerin is also the GM of Team USA, and controls who will be added to the American Olympic Roster, with Auston Matthews already named and Matthew Knies injured, he may be looking either at other Americans such as Joseph Woll, or at potential trade targets.
With the Toronto Maple Leafs a team that has come into an early season struggles, opposing teams are already working to get some looks in to what’s really going on in Toronto.
Why Peter Chiarelli might be watching the Leafs-Canadiens
The St. Louis Blues are a team that has been discussed in trade talks as the Blues have dealt with a worrisome 7-9-6 record while second in the NHL in goals allowed with 82.The Blues have been linked in reports to looking at the possibility of being sellers, with the Leafs discussed as one team for the connection to former Blues and current Leafs head coach Craig Berube.
GM Brad Treliving has indicated any trade he makes he wants to be “roster-for-roster”, meaning the Leafs would be adding roster players and giving away players on their roster, rather than giving up prospects.
Looking to potentially be a selling team soon if things don’t change for St. Louis, the Blues could already be scouting potential options if their goal is to trade with Toronto.
