Mikko Rantanen is going to miss the next Dallas Stars game, on the road against the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday, following an automatic one-game suspension.
The league-imposed discipline required no hearing for the player. Per rule 23.6 of the NHL rulebook, any player who incurs a total of two misconducts in the physical infraction category within 41 games is automatically suspended for one game.
It didn’t take Rantanen 41 games to get two of these. It didn’t even take four games. Rantanen was hit with a five-minute major for boarding and a game misconduct twice in three games.
The NHL still could’ve suspended him for longer. But according to ESPN’s Greg Wyshynski, that won’t be the case. Rantanen will not receive any further discipline after injuring Alex Romanov and then cutting Matt Coronato four days later.
FYI: No additional discipline/hearing for @DallasStars Mikko Rantanen beyond the automatic one-game ban.

I shared my full thoughts on the week that was for Rantanen in my Deen’s Daily. You can read it below, and I encourage you to do so
However, what I failed to mention was that, sandwiched in the middle of all this, was a $2,000 fine for embellishment. The NHL fines $2,000 for diving when it’s a second offense. This means Rantanen had already been warned during this season.
