Tate McRae isn’t just a pop star — she also knows puck. The Canadian star has expressed a love for hockey long before cozying up to New Jersey Devils’ forward Jack Hughes
Jack Hughes and Tate McRae were spotted grabbing dinner
Pop star Tate McRae is getting back to her hockey roots as she was spotted out with New Jersey Devils’ star player, Jack Hughes.
In a photo sent in to Deuxmoi, Tate was picture wearing a red top and sitting across from Jack, who currently is injured and unable to play with his team. The New Jersey icon wore a beanie on the date as the pair ate dinner at Anton’s in Manhattan’s West Village.
This isn’t the first time Tate has gotten close with a hockey player in what could be a new turn in her love life. In fact, the pop star is very familiar with the sport generally speaking. Let’s take a look at how well Tate knows puck.

Tate has never been shy about her love for hockey. She grew up in a hockey family. The sport is immensely popular in Canada, where she was born and raised. Her brother, Tucker McRae, played for juniors team Okotoks Oilers and later played for Dartmouth.
The hockey love then trickled over to her dating life, even before she was spotted eating with Jack. Notably, she dated the Columbus Blue Jackets’ Cole Sillinger. starting in 2021. The pair met through mutual friends, connected by Tate’s brother, and Cole already had heart eyes for Tate, calling her his celebrity crush.

“It was really funny — I was like ‘I can forever hold this over you ‘til the day you die, that I was your celebrity crush,'” she told Entertainment Tonight in 2022.
The pair’s 2023 break up, though, got a bit messy. They didn’t make a formal announcement. Instead, Tate quietly removed their photos together from her Instagram.
The internet speculated Cole cheated on Tate, but that line of thinking was swiftly shut down. “All false my guy,” Cole commented on a post detailing the accusations.

Her album cover for her sophomore album, Think Later, features a photo of her wearing a tank top, panties, and goalie pads. However, she sparked some ridicule as her goalie pads with on backwards, according to fans who didn’t hold back their ridicule.
Following their split, Tate didn’t leave the hockey scene alone. In fact, she doubled down on her love for the game as she performed at the 2024 All-Star event, rocking a jersey.

The New Jersey Devils started the 2025–2026 season strong, but lost momentum after a slew of injuries took over their team’s roster. Before his own injury, Jack got 10 goals and 20 points in his first 17 games, reaffirming his critical position on the team. However, he is currently out for at least two months after slicing his hand open during a team dinner in a “freak accident.”
Jack was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NHL draft.
