“In November, Elias Pettersson has started looking like the player he once was and he’s currently riding a five-game point streak, where he’s tallied four goals & five assists, into tonight’s clash with the Calgary Flames.”-Jaxon

Pettersson trade rumours grow, due to improved play

Noah Strang on X posted that Pettersson’ trade talks are back in circulation, after it was more likely for him to be bought it out with how he was playing. Now that he is starting to produce again, he could bring back a lot of return for the Canucks.

However moving Pettersson would not make much sense unless the Canucks are fully committing to a rebuild. Which wouldn’t make much sense since they announced Quinn Hughes will not be available for trade. The Canucks already do not have enough centermen, so dealing Pettersson away would only make the situation worse.

It’s unlikely Pettersson gets moved and Hughes stays, if they both get traded and the Canucks announce a rebuild, they can load up on draft picks and start from scratch, but as long as Hughes is still on the team, so should Pettersson. The Canucks need to decide if they’re truly rebuilding or not, because if they only partially commit to it then nothing productive will come out of and they will remain in limbo until Hughes signs with another team in two years.
