Stuart Skinner’s future in Edmonton has been a source of speculation as of late, and now, Elliotte Friedman makes it clear that he’s on the way out.

For the past few seasons, the Edmonton Oilers goaltending woes have let them down at the worst times, as they have fallen short in the Stanley Cup Finals on several occasions.

This season, things have gotten worse, as the Oilers have registered their worst combined save percentage numbers since 1979-80, and unfortunately for Stuart Skinner, he’s the one that’s going to pay the price.

The Oilers have no choice but to move Skinner per top Insider

Trade speculation surrounding Skinner dates back years now, and while many expected the team to make a change over the off-season, the time is now according to Elliotte Friedman in his latest written 32 Thoughts piece.

Friedman details that the Oilers did not want to make what many would see as a ‘lateral move’ in the off-season, but with the team ranked 30th in the NHL in GAA this season, any move is one that’s going to satisfy the fanbase.

Already, we’ve seen the team linked to the likes of Jordan Binnington and Tristan Jarry, and while they may need to give up more assets than they like, given the upgrade they represent, the time is now to make a move.

Ultimately, the Oilers can’t go on like this, as they have three seasons left of Connor McDavid, and if they can’t fix their goaltending woes and give him a proper chance, this will go down as a major failure, so expect Stan Bowman and the front office to be aggressive in making a move now.
