UPDATED 2:20 P.M. – Leafs Head Coach Craig Berube confirmed that William Nylander will play tomorrow vs Washington.

The Toronto Maple Leafs get back help on defense but have William Nylander getting a rest day.

William Nylander is not skating with the Toronto Maple Leafs at Thursday’s practice ahead of tomorrow’s game against the Washington Capitals.

The Leafs play a rare afternoon game tomorrow in Washington at 5:00 p.m., but are practicing without Nylander, but is just out for maintenance reasons.

It’s unclear if Nylander is playing tomorrow, but out for maintenance indicates the likeliness that Nylander will play tomorrow.

For now, Easton Cowan is skating on the Leafs second line next to John Tavares and Max Domi in Nylander’s place, Domi having played on the first line against Columbus.

Carlo returns to full contact while Nylander gets a rare day off: a small reset for a tired Leafs core

Toronto does get some positivity on the blueline with defenseman Brandon Carlo returning to practice for the Leafs.

Carlo last played November 13th against the Los Angeles, having been out for the last five games with a lower-body injury.

Having resumed skating yesterday, Carlo didn’t appear in Toronto’s game yesterday against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Carlo was skating on the Leafs fourth pair, which may be a sign that the 29-year-old won’t make his return tomorrow, but if so, could set him up for a return Saturday against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

This season, Carlo has appeared in 18 games in his first full season after being traded from the Boston Bruins at last year’s trade deadline. Carlo has two points on the season for Toronto.
