The Washington Capitals held practice and a private family skate at MedStar Capitals Iceplex on Thanksgiving ahead of their Black Friday game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The most notable detail to surface out of the skate was less about any current Capital and more about an adorable one potentially in the future.
Tom Wilson took his one-year-old son Teddy out on the ice sans skates to do some drills. And as you might have guessed, Teddy was a natural.
The videos were taken by Wilson’s wife, Taylor, and shared by the NHL.
In one clip, Teddy successfully passed the puck to Ryan Leonard in the neutral zone and later shot the puck into the net from the top of the crease.
The most notable homage to Dad was when Wilson and Leonard lined up five pucks for Teddy to shoot inside the crease. Teddy scored on four consecutive shots, but on the fifth, he hit the post. He then, as if it were programmed directly into his brain, immediately crashed the net and potted the rebound.
In its Instagram post, the NHL notes that Teddy is draft-eligible in 2042. That’s just six years after Sergei Ovechkin.
