How Many Teams Make the Stanley Cup Playoffs?
Sixteen teams make the playoffs, eight from each conference. The top three teams from each division are guaranteed a playoff spot, along with the top two teams from either division as Wild Cards.
How Does Stanley Cup Playoff Seeding Work?
The top team in each conference – i.e., the team with more points of the two division winners – plays the second Wild Card in each conference. The other division winner plays the first Wild Card team.
The Nos. 2 and 3 teams in each division play each other.
Are Teams Reseeded in the Stanley Cup Playoffs?
NHL teams aren’t reseeded in each round of the playoffs.
