Entering Saturday’s game, the New Jersey Devils had not lost in regulation at Prudential Center all season, carrying a 9-0-1 record. There’s a first time for everything.
The Flyers became the first to defeat the Devils in regulation at home, securing a 5-3 win to cap off a four-game road trip.
For the second straight game, the Flyers opened the scoring. At 5:18, Christian Dvorak made a nice centering pass for Owen Tippett, who scored the 100th goal of his career to make it 1-0.
The Devils tied the game at 12:09. Off a transition rush, Simon Nemec fired a shot past Dan Vladar for his sixth goal of the season.
Through 20 minutes, shots were 8-6 Flyers.
The Flyers wasted little time in the second opening up a lead again. Just 53 seconds into the period, Matvei Michkov emerged from the penalty box and went in on goal on a rush, scoring his seventh goal of the season to make it 2-1.
Less than three minutes later, Travis Konecny fired home his sixth goal of the season to make it 3-1 at 3:16.
The Flyers extended the lead further at 13:03. After Jesper Bratt hit the post on a breakaway, the Flyers went the other way on a two-on-one, with Tippett feeding Trevor Zegras for his ninth goal of the season to make it 4-1.
In the final minute of the second period, the Devils got a goal back on the power play. Timo Meier put home a rebound for his ninth of the season to make it 4-2.

The Devils cut the lead to one at 6:28. Off a turnover, Dawson Mercer made two nice moves to get positioning and scored on a backhand for his 10th of the season.
In the final minute of the third, Tippett got a breakaway and was tripped, being awarded an empty-net goal to cap the scoring.
Vladar made 29 saves on 32 shots in the win. Jacob Markstrom made 26 saves on 30 shots in the loss.
Tippett had three points. Konecny, Zegras, and Travis Sanheim each had two points. Mercer and Bratt each had two points for the Devils.
The Flyers now return home to start a six-game homestand. It begins on Monday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins at 7 p.m.
