The Vegas Golden Knights fended off a valiant effort by the San Jose Sharks and held on to win 4-3 on Saturday.

Despite taking the lead early, the Sharks did their best to come back from 4-1 down.

Tomas Hertl scored twice for the Knights, who have won nine straight games against the Sharks. Mitch Marner had a goal and an assist, and Colton Sissons also scored. Carl Lindbom earned his first NHL win, making 17 saves.

Will Smith scored twice for the Sharks, and Macklin Celebrini had an assist to give him 100 career points. William Eklund scored for the second straight game, and Alex Nedeljkovic made 20 saves.

The San Jose Sharks finish the month of November with a 9-5-1 record. The team was not able to get redemption for the devastating overtime loss.

Vincent Desharnais missed his second straight game due to an upper-body injury. The San Jose Sharks consider him day-to-day for now.

Smith gave the Sharks a 1-0 lead at 7:34 of the first period. Tyler Toffoli sent a pass up the left wing, and Smith’s wrist shot beat Lindbom over the glove.

Hertl tied the game 1-1 at 16:13. After the Sharks got caught a little flat-footed, Hertl found a loose puck in the slot and beat Nedeljkovic over the blocker.

Sissons gave the Golden Knights a 2-1 lead at 5:36 of the second period. After Keegan Kolesar’s shot got through Nedeljkovic’s body, Sissons got the puck behind the falling Sharks goalie and over the goal line.

Marner pushed the lead to 3-1 with a wrap-around goal at 7:02.

Hertl got his second of the game, this time on a power play, at 12:38. Hertl deflected Marner’s shot from the point in front of Nedeljkovic.

Smith scored his second goal of the game to make it 4-2 with a power play goal at 14:40. Celebrini got his 100th career point by deflecting a Golden Knights pass to Smith for the goal.

Eklund was able to cut the Golden Knights’ lead down to 4-3 with a sweet backhand goal at 19:35.
