According to a renowned NHL insider, the Vancouver Canucks could be interested in trading one of their top stars to the Detroit Red Wings for Lucas Raymond.
Steve Yzerman has plenty of assets and cap space to make a blockbuster trade, but Pagnotta believes the Canucks won’t go for anything less than Lucas Raymond:
“Detroit has a lot of different assets, I think Vancouver… I think they’re gonna want immediate star value if they’re moving out Quinn Hughes, so I look to a guy like Lucas Raymond as the centerpiece”
Red Wings Would Say No To Raymond For Hughes Trade
According to the Winged Wheel Podcast host Ryan Hana, the Red Wings wouldn’t agree to send Lucas Raymond for Quinn Hughes.
He stated that alongside Dylan Larkin, Moritz Seider, and probably Simon Edvinsson, Raymond is untouchable in Detroit.
“This would be an immediate no for Detroit, but also not unreasonable for Vancouver to ask for a Norris-level defenseman in his prime.
The reality is, a Hughes trade likely only works for Detroit if they can package assets other than Larkin/Raymond/Seider/probably Edvinsson.”
Quinn Hughes would be a massive addition to Detroit’s blue line, but the hole left by Lucas Raymond on the top line would hurt.
The Wings can already count on a standout offensive defenseman prospect in Axel Sandin-Pellikka. Although he may not reach Hughes’ numbers, he should be able to lead a power play unit and produce.
