Detroit Red Wings fans aren’t quite sure how to react to Moritz Seider’s fight with Boston Bruins forward Mark Kastelic Saturday.

But nobody liked seeing Kastelic knocking down Seider with a heavy right.

The fan base wants the Red Wings to be a tougher team, much harder to play against, but Seider plays more minutes than anyone else. Nobody wants to see him spend time in the penalty box. That was not a good exchange for Detroit to have Seider gone for five minutes. He’s more valuable to Detroit than Kastelic is, although the Bruins appreciate his contributions.

Plus, as the video shows, Seider is not an experienced fighter.

This was Seider’s take on the fight: “Obviously very tough guy. But I think we just need a little bit of a spark. I think we sometimes get pushed around a bit and sometimes you just need to answer. It doesn’t matter the outcome. Just got to show a face and be ready for it.”

Seider & Kastelic get into it behind the play, end up dropping the gloves and Kastelic ends up dropping Mo with a right.

Tough customer – don’t love Seider having to field that scrap, especially with Kastelic’s gloved punches to goad him into the fight. #LGRW pic.twitter.com/bVZCx2fyVp

Red Wings In Case You Missed It

Should we be worried that Patrick Kane hasn’t scored in eight games? He does have nine assists in the past 10 games.

Forward Michael Rasmussen ties game late, but Red Wings lose in shootout.

Michael Brandsegg-Nygard is among those benefitting from the Grand Rapids Griffins’ exceptional start.

Red Wings Extra

Defenseman Seider has 196 points (32 goals, 164 assists) and 183 penalty minutes in 353 career NHL games since 2021-22. He can become the sixth skater – and first defenseman – from the 2019 NHL Draft class to reach the 200-point mark, joining Jack Hughes (371), Matt Boldy
(272), Cole Caufield (244), Dylan Cozens (229) and Trevor Zegras (208)… Carter Gylander (4-0-1 in GR) has been returned to Toledo.
