Even though the Edmonton Oilers continue to get shaky goaltending from the tandem of Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard, NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman doesn’t believe a move just for the sake of a move is coming.

A team that has been anything but consistent so far this year is the Edmonton Oilers, who continue to get shaky goaltending from the tandem of Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard.

Despite most fans and analysts believing that a move would be made at some point during the summer to shore up the important position, no such move was made other than the depth acquisition of Connor Ingram from the Utah Mammoth.

Per NHL Watcher on X, NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman is reporting that Oilers general manager Stan Bowman isn’t going to make a trade just for the sake of it, and that Skinner hasn’t requested a move out of town.

Friedman on Headlines says Oilers have made enough calls, but they will not make a lateral move, they will not make a move for the sake of making a move, they’d rather not make a move than make a panic move or a bad move. Friedman also confirms Stuart Skinner has not asked out.

The Oilers have been linked to other goaltenders across the NHL in recent weeks, including Tristan Jarry of the Pittsburgh Penguins and more recently, Joseph Woll of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Stuart Skinner Knows That He Must Be Better For The Oilers

Skinner recently acknowledged that he’s well aware of the fact that he has to be better for his teammates.

He made the most of that statement by posting a shutout on Saturday against the Seattle Kraken, making 26 saves in a 4-0 Oilers win.

If that were how Skinner would typically play in the crease for Edmonton, they’d be in a far better position than they are now. But the unfortunate truth is that Skinner (and Pickard) have both been unable to string together any kind of consistency, hence the trade rumours beginning to grow in Edmonton.

We’ll have to see whether or not the pressure to improve the goaltending becomes too much for Bowman to ignore, especially if the struggles continue.
