The Detroit Red Wings and the Edmonton Oilers are now ideal trade partners following a new report from Elliotte Friedman.
The Edmonton Oilers’ start to the season has been one of the most disappointing in the NHL. After 26 games, the team is sixth in the Pacific Division, with an 11-10-5 record.
After two straight runs to the Stanley Cup Finals, many analysts expected to see the Oilers keep going and be among the top teams in the league this season.
However, some massive issues in their lineup are clearly preventing the team from finding their groove.
In a new statement from Elliotte Friedman, we learned that the Oilers could be tempted to make some trades soon.
Friedman Reveals Oilers Looking For Defenseman And Goalie On Trade Market: Red Wings are the ideal suitors
On the latest 32 Thoughts episode, Friedman talked about the possibility of seeing the Oilers going after defensemen and goalies on the trade market:
“I wonder if the Oilers are considering other defensive help too; are they looking at, okay it’s not just about the goaltending, are there other changes that can help out the defensive makeup”
This prompted new reports linking the Oilers to the Red Wings.
In Detroit, there is a surplus at the blue line, and there could even be a goalie to spare in the organization.
One of the players who could end up leaving the Wings is Erik Gustafsson.
The 33-year-old defenseman tallied eight points in 10 games with the Grand Rapids Griffins this season. He is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, when his $2,000,000 AAV contract expires.
