Detroit Red Wings forward Alex DeBrincat completed a historic milestone as he stepped onto the ice to face the Boston Bruins at TD Garden on Saturday.
Milestones aren’t easy to come by in the NHL. The dog-eat-dog nature of the game makes attaining career records suited for the upper echelons of players, and one of those included is Detroit Red Wings forward Alex DeBrincat.
The Red Wings forward has been a firebrand for the team since he arrived in a trade from the Ottawa Senators.
Since he’s suited up for the Original Six organization, he hasn’t had a season below the sixty-point mark, and below 20 goals for that matter.
Saturday was his four-hundredth consecutive game played in the NHL, and he’ll be wearing a Red Wings jersey doing it.
Detroit Red Wings’ Alex DeBrincat to set career milestone tonight against the Boston Bruins
He’s about 78 games behind the Montreal Canadiens’ Nick Suzuki (478) and 549 behind the Colorado Avalanche’s Brent Burns (949).
It will be a while before he reaches the heights of Brent Burns’ own Iron Man streak in the league.
The former 39th overall selection in the 2nd round of the 2016 NHL Draft has a long way to go before he can even conceive of seeing a total like that.
DeBrincat has played a total of 8 years in the NHL, split between the Detroit Red Wings, Ottawa Senators, and Chicago Blackhawks.
Saturday was one big step towards greater things in the NHL for Alex DeBrincat.
