The Canadiens might have something truly special with Bryce Pickford, and we’re starting to see it for real.

For a third-round pick, this is clearly the kind of production that raises eyebrows in Montreal. Pickford was passed over in 2024, but he has completely imposed himself since then.

Bryce Pickford fully embraces his personality

His refusal of the Red Wings’ development camp says a lot. After the draft in which Detroit passed on him, he chose to spend a week with Darryl Belfry rather than accept their invitation. It’s a clear, deliberate answer that shows strong character – but more importantly, rare confidence for a prospect selected 81st overall.

Pickford is coming off a massive spring with 24 points in 18 playoff games, including 13 goals, leading Medicine Hat all the way to the Memorial Cup final. Montreal really likes this type of player who explodes at the right moment. At 6-foot-1, he has the size, the offensive instincts, and he doesn’t force his game.

His age also adds something to the picture. At 19, he’s back in the conversation after a full season in which he completely transformed his production. The Canadiens’ management did not miss his breakout. The team needs depth on the right side behind David Reinbacher, and Pickford is already pushing hard.

He even believes he could hold his own in the AHL as soon as his season out West ends. The Laval Rocket is keeping an eye on him, especially with his 27 points already before December.

“I can play at this level right now. I’m very confident. I believe I would handle myself very well.” – Bryce Pickford

The first jump to the pros is still a massive challenge. But what he’s shown lately suggests he wants even more. Pickford isn’t afraid to go all-in, nor to surprise team executives when he feels his place is somewhere else.

Montreal likes that kind of internal fire when it’s well managed. Say what you will, but a story like this can really change a career.
