The Bruins made a roster move on Sunday when they assigned Georgii Merkulov to Providence.

Boston summoned the forward from the AHL on Nov. 28 ahead of its Black Friday matinee against the New York Rangers. Merkulov played 10:35 in the 6-2 loss at TD Garden.

Prior to the Bruins calling Merkulov up, the 25-year-old totaled 14 points in 17 games for Providence. The call-up came just before coach Marco Sturm announced that David Pastrnak and Pavel Zacha would miss Friday’s game.

Zacha returned in Saturday’s shootout win over the Detroit Red Wings, but Pastrnak missed his second straight game as the star forward remains day-to-day.

The Bruins return to action on Tuesday against the Red Wings. It’s possible Merkulov’s assignment to Providence means Pastrnak is close to returning.
