The Edmonton Oilers advanced to the Western Conference final on Wednesday, dispatching the Vegas Golden Knights in five games. Edmonton used strong defense throughout the series to knock out Vegas, showing off impressive growth.

The Oilers dealt with an injury to starting goalie Calvin Pickard in the middle of the series, forcing them to go with veteran Stuart Skinner. Skinner struggled during the first round of the playoffs, adding some caution to his addition to the lineup.

But Skinner showed up for this team and helped them take out Vegas. After the close-out game, Skinner offered a simple message on how he was feeling.

“I had a feeling of peace tonight.”, he said.

Edmonton has now won eight of their past nine playoff games this year, and they are looking very dangerous. The Oilers are looking to get back to the Stanley Cup Final after losing in Game 7 last season.

“We’ve been getting better and better at that every single game, we really believe that,” Skinner said. “It’s been a process for us to get to where we are today, and I truly believe we took another step even tonight. It shows a lot of character in the room.”

If Skinner can produce in the way that he did over the final two games of this series, Edmonton could go all the way. The Oilers shut out the Golden Knights in two straight games, marking an impressive feat for the veteran goalie.

Edmonton is now awaiting the winner of the series between the Dallas Stars and Winnipeg Jets. Dallas currently has a 3-1 series lead.
