A National Hockey League insider has linked Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes to an Original Six team as trade talks surrounding the club heat up.

The Vancouver Canucks are expected to be very active on the trade front in the weeks and months to come after making pending unrestricted free agents and some veteran players available on the market for teams around the NHL.

“I believe Quinn and his agent are aware of the direction we want to go. And they’re aware of the direction they want to go. Everybody wants to play on a winning team. But there’s different reasons why people make decisions” Jim Rutherford said recently.

On Friday’s edition of The Sheet with Jeff Marek, the NHL insider wondered if a team like the Detroit Red Wings could enter the Quinn Hughes sweepstakes, whenever they may begin, along with the New Jersey Devils, who have been linked to the Canucks captain for months now.

“I wonder about the Red Wings with Quinn Hughes.” Marek said.

Joining Jeff Marek on his show yesterday was David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period who went on to add that if the Vancouver Canucks and Detroit Red Wings were to discuss a Quinn Hughes trade in the near future, one player to keep an eye on as the centerpiece of the return is 2020 fourth overall pick Lucas Raymond.

“Detroit has a lot of different assets, I think Vancouver…I think they’re gonna want immediate star value if they’re moving out Quinn Hughes, so I look to a guy like Lucas Raymond as the centerpiece.” Pagnotta said.

Beyond Lucas Raymond, who is growing into a pretty solid player himself and is coming off a career-high 80 points last season, the Detroit Red Wings have some other pieces that the Canucks would undoubtedly have interest in too including Marco Kasper, Nate Danielson and potentially even Axel Sandin-Pellikka.

Whether it’s leading up to the trade deadline this season or over in the summer, the Vancouver Canucks have a big decision to make with Quinn Hughes and it’s going to be interesting to see which route they go and if he’s made available on the market, will anyone be able to give what Patrik Allvin wants for the 26-year-old.
