Former Detroit Red Wings player Todd Bertuzzi’s hope of coaching the Cambridge RedHawks to a new Greater Ontario Hockey League (GOHL) record for best start in league history crashed stunningly over the weekend.

The RedHawks were 23-0 when they lost 9-1 to St. Mary’s on Friday. That’s not a typo.

Bertuzzi, in his first season as Cambridge’s coach, was chasing the league mark of 25-0 set by the Kitchener Dutchmen in 2013-14.

Cambridge’s win streak ends spectacularly as St Marys wins this one 9-1. Really enjoyed it here – this is one of the barns where GOHL hockey feels like a big deal, even in smaller confines. pic.twitter.com/Z8zQQb8bzU

The Redhawks did defeat Port Colborne 4-3 Saturday to improve to 24-1. The GOHL is a feeder system for the Ontario Hockey League.

Bertuzzi, uncle to Tyler, played parts of six seasons with the Red Wings (2006-07, 2009-14).

Red Wings In Case You Missed It

Could Robby Fabbri end up back with the Red Wings? Bob Duff writes about that possibility in his segment about what he’s been hearing in the hockey world.

The Red Wings may be interested in acquiring defenseman Quinn Hughes from Vancouver. However, they will have to compete against most of the teams in the NHL.

Detroit prospect goalie Sebastian Cossa is making a case that he’s NHL ready with his 8-1 record and 1.56 GAA for the Grand Rapids Griffins.
