The New York Rangers will be without one of their top point producers for the foreseeable future.
Defenceman Adam Fox was placed on the long-term injured reserve and is set to miss at least 10 games, Vince Z. Mercogliano of The Athletic reported on Monday.
Fox was injured in the third period of Saturday’s 4-1 loss against the Tampa Bay Lightning after taking a hard shoulder-to-shoulder check by forward Brandon Hagel.
The 27-year-old Jericho, N.Y., native finished the game playing 16:27 with one assist. He left after the hit.
Before getting injured, Fox was having a bounce-back year for the Rangers, putting up three goals and 23 assists for 26 points.
He currently sits second in points among defencemen, only behind Colorado Avalanche’s Cale Makar, who has 32.
The injury is not expected to affect the American’s Olympic availability, per ESPN’s Emily Kaplan.
