Should the Detroit Red Wings consider calling up a goaltender from the Grand Rapids Griffins amid the team’s struggles and the historic start of the AHL?

In Grand Rapids, the Griffins are dominating the AHL, currently on the best start of a season in franchise history, with 16 wins after 18 games.

With no surprise, Sebastian Cossa’s name was listed.

Since then, the goalie has had another impressive performance on the ice that strengthens that idea.

Grand Rapids Griffins Goalie Sebastian Cossa Has The Best Season Of His Career; Could The Wings Call Him Up?

It’s no secret that in Detroit, John Gibson has struggled in the first months of his tenure with the Wings.

He only won four games in 13 opportunities, with a 3.59 GAA and a .865 SV%.

However, in the AHL, the Griffins are off to a great start, thanks to Sebastian Cossa’s performances.

Last night, the Griffins won 1-0 over the Iowa Wild, with Cossa stopping all 26 shots fired at him.

This was his second shutout of the season, and he now has an 8-1-0 record, a 1.56 GAA, and a .942 SV%.

Griffins head coach Dan Watson opened up on his goalie after the win:

“He’s (Cossa) been very good. Every start, he’s given us a chance to win every game. It’s another opportunity for him, for the maturity in his game, his preparation and making sure he’s dialed in.

The guys like playing in front of him and he’s working extremely hard in practice and it’s paying off for him.”

Cossa is slowly becoming an interesting option for the Wings, who are struggling lately.
