Dahlin was assessed a five-minute major and game misconduct for boarding Flyers forward Trevor Zegras with just over three minutes remaining in the middle frame.

The hit came after Zegras put a shot on the Buffalo net and pursued the rebound into the corner. Dahlin seemingly caught Zegras by his nameplate with a cross-check, sending the Flyers’ leading scorer headfirst into the boards.

Zegras’s Philadelphia teammates immediately came to his defence as he stayed down on the ice.

Despite the play’s ugly look, Zegras remained in the game. His first-period goal gave him 10 on the year to go along with his 16 assists.

Dahlin had played 16:34 before getting the boot, recording one shot on goal and a minus-1 rating.

Entering Wednesday’s contest, Dahlin was averaging 24:34 of ice time over 23 games and had one goal and 17 points.
