Further details appear to hint at a reunion between the Detroit Red Wings and forward Robby Fabbri.

Robby Fabbri came close to playing in the NHL this season when he signed a professional tryout contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins and joined them for training camp.

However, he failed to earn a spot on the team in the preseason and was let go by the Penguins.

Since then, he has remained without a contract and now appears close to returning to the NHL.

Former Wings Robby Fabbri Looking To Sign NHL Contract

“I got a note about Robby Fabbri – skating with OHL Windsor after a preseason PTO with Pittsburgh.

18 goals two years ago in DET, sounds like he’s getting closer to an NHL return.”

The 29-year-old forward tallied 106 goals and 110 assists in 442 games with the St. Louis Blues, where he won the Stanley Cup in 2019, the Detroit Red Wings, and the Anaheim Ducks.

He’s taking part in conditioning skating right now in Windsor, just acoss the water from Detroit.

What will be interesting to see is if he can remain healthy. Over his career, the forward was injured many times, notably suffering from three ACL tears.

For the Wings, who could benefit from adding a low-cost, potentially high-reward player to their roster, going after Fabbri would make sense.

Steve Yzerman’s organization has enough cap space to make significant additions to the team, but as of now, Fabbri could be the best option available outside the trade market.
