This just in: Alex Ovechkin scores a lot of goals.

The ageless forward has lit the lamp 12 times in 27 games this season, pushing his NHL record to 909 entering Wednesday’s games and establishing a pace that’ll get him to at least 30 for the 20th time in his career.

Wayne Gretzky, whose 894 goals were the league’s all-time best until last season, had 14 seasons with 30 or more goals. Ovechkin’s 19 times with 30 or more are already the league’s best, and only he, Mike Gartner (17) and Jaromir Jagr (15) had more than Gretzky.
