Alex Texier was signed by the Montreal Canadiens to a one year one million dollar contract on November 23 in order to ensure the Habs had some NHL ready players in the lineup. So far, that move has looked very good.

Watching him play, I love his touches with the puck as he has a tremendous amount of skill. He’s able to thread passes through defenders effectively, which he proved on the Jake Evans goal vs Vegas. Also, his saucer pass is lethal and he has a sick set of hands.

Furthermore, during last night’s game he was put on a line with Demidov and Kapanen and they had an amazing game. The three players complimented each other quite well, and Texier was further able to show off his skill and patience with the puck by being put on a line with offensively talented players.

The line had a lot of effective O-zone time and were rewarded with a Kapanen goal and Texier getting an assist on the play. So far he has two assists in 4 games which is a good start. While it’s still early, it’s better to have a good start than a bad or un-noticable one.

Kent Hughes really understands what this team needs and the organization’s ability to evaluate talent has proven to be awesome. They constantly make additions which complement the team’s structure, culture while maintaining a good degree of cap flexibility. I really think they have one of the best front offices in all of hockey.

What do you all think of Texier’s play thus far?
