The St. Louis Blues have recalled forward Matt Luff from the AHL’s Springfield Thunderbirds as the team continues to deal with a growing list of injuries up front.
Luff, 28, has been one of Springfield’s most reliable offensive contributors this season. Through 17 games, he leads the Thunderbirds with seven goals and 14 points, giving the Blues an experienced, productive option as they work to fill holes in their forward group. Over his AHL career, the Oakville, Ontario native has totaled 226 points (94 goals, 132 assists) and 192 penalty minutes in 296 regular-season games.
He also brings NHL familiarity to the lineup. Luff has suited up in 106 NHL games across stints with Los Angeles, Nashville, and Detroit, collecting 27 points (15 goals, 12 assists). The Blues signed him as a free agent on July 1, 2025, and this marks his first call-up of the season.
The move comes as the Blues face a sudden shortage of healthy forwards. Jimmy Snuggerud is out after undergoing wrist surgery and will miss at least six weeks. Alexey Toropchenko remains sidelined with leg burns, while Nathan Walker is dealing with an upper-body injury. With three regulars unavailable, the need for reinforcements became urgent.
Luff joins the roster ahead of a challenging road matchup, as the Blues travel to Boston to face the Bruins on Thursday. His scoring touch, versatility, and experience could prove valuable as St. Louis tries to navigate this stretch of adversity and stay competitive with the next three games being away.
