The Boston Bruins haven’t been bitten by the injury bug, they’ve been hit by the injury bus.

David Pastrnak, Charlie McAvoy, Elias Lindholm and Casey Mittelstadt
have all missed significant time with injuries throughout the season, while Henri Jokiharju, Jordan Harris and Matej Blumel are just getting started with stints of their own on injured reserve.

It’s been pretty bad, and continues to get worse…

Michael Callahan, who was already an emergency call-up, joined them after being placed on injured reserve Thursday. Victor Söderström was recalled on an emergency basis from AHL-Providence.

Callahan, 26, appeared in five games before landing on injured reserve, a short stretch that came after making 197 total appearances in the AHL.

Söderström, 24, has appeared in 18 games this season with the Providence Bruins — and is tied for first in scoring among defensemen (one goal and eight assists). The No. 11 overall pick in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft has made 53 total appearances in the NHL — all for the Arizona Coyotes.

“The guys battled,” Bruins head coach Marco Sturm said following Tuesday’s loss to the Detroit Red Wings. “I don’t know, for some reason we can’t stay healthy.”

The Bruins will have to figure out a way to start, because they only have so many options at their disposal.
