An NHL insider revealed why the Detroit Red Wings currently have interesting leverage in the Quinn Hughes trade talks.

Trade speculation surrounding Quinn Hughes has been going around for a while now.

With his contract in Vancouver expiring at the end of next season and the rumors sending him to the New Jersey Devils to reunite with his brothers, it appears that his time with the Canucks could be close to an end.

According to a new report, the Wings have interesting leverage if they want to go after him on the trade market.

Many aren’t familiar with Hughes’ family’s location, and a recent inside report unveiled that his family is located in Michigan, also where Quinn and Luke Hughes both played before their NHL careers took off.

The Red Wings Have What It Takes To Trade For Quinn Hughes

It all started a few weeks ago, when the Canucks president of hockey operations discussed Hughes’ future in Vancouver:

“I believe Quinn and his agent are aware of the direction we want to go. And they’re aware of the direction they want to go. Everybody wants to play on a winning team. But there’s different reasons why people make decisions.”

Later, the insider David Pagnotta confirmed that the Wings could be in a great position to make an enticing offer to the Canucks for Hughes:

“Can you see [Red Wings exec Steve Yzerman] not being interested in Quinn Hughes? Can you see Quinn Hughes not being interested in Detroit when the time comes? I think they’re very legit, and Detroit has centers, and centers that have been playing in the NHL. I think Detroit is a team to watch.”

The Red Wings have a lot of interesting players to offer, as well as picks, prospects, and the cap space to go after him, offering Moritz Seider as a long-term defensive partner as well.
