NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman has revealed what the cost would be to acquire goaltender Laurent Brossoit from the Chicago Blackhawks in a trade.
The Chicago Blackhawks appear to be set with the goaltending tandem of Spencer Knight and Arvid Soderblom, but they do have another goaltender on their roster who could be given a new opportunity elsewhere.
Laurent Brossoit, who has yet to appear in a single game in a Blackhawks sweater, has been given permission by the team to seek a trade, as he likely wouldn’t receive any kind of adequate playing time while in Chicago.
Per NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman, the cost to acquire Brossoit in a trade from the Blackhawks would likely be a late round draft pick, and that cost could potentially go up if an interested team wanted Chicago to retain part of his salary.
Elliotte Friedman: Someone said to me, if you were willing to take the full number [$3.3m] for Laurent Brossoit…a late round pick or future considerations; if you’re asking for Chicago to retain…you’ll probably have to do a little bit more – FAN Hockey Show (12/2)
Brossoit is in the last year of a two year contract with a $3.3 million AAV (average annual value) that he signed in Chicago in the summer of 2024.
The Blackhawks recently sent him down to the American Hockey League affiliate Rockford IceHogs for a conditioning assignment, and to also potentially showcase him for a trade.
Laurent Brossoit Hasn’t Played An NHL Game Since 2024 With The Jets
Brossoit, who has played for multiple teams in his NHL career including the Edmonton Oilers and Vegas Golden Knights along with two stints with the Winnipeg Jets, has yet to play a single NHL game since 2024 in Winnipeg.
He was signed by the Blackhawks in 2024, but he had to undergo meniscus surgery and would miss the entire 2024-25 season. He also once again underwent surgery before this season, but has been back on the ice in Blackhawks practice and will now play in the AHL on a conditioning assignment.
Brossoit is 64-46-13 with a 2.64 GAA and .911 SV% in his NHL career.
