Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube had the latest update on the health of goaltender Joseph Woll, who left last night’s 5-1 win over the Hurricanes with an injury and was replaced by Dennis Hildeby.
The Toronto Maple Leafs won their fourth game out of their last six last night, 5-1 over the Carolina Hurricanes.
But there is more injury concern, as goaltender Joseph Woll was hurt and had to leave the game; he was replaced by Dennis Hildeby.
Head coach Craig Berube has categorized the injury as a lower-body injury while also saying the team hopes that it isn’t serious. We’ll see tomorrow. Lower-body right now. We’ll see where he is at.
Right now, I can’t give you an answer. I really don’t know. Hopefully, he is not [serious]. But I really liked the way Beast came in and handled it.
Berube also said that he likes how Hildeby handled himself, stopping all nine shots he saw in relief of Woll.
He has done a great job for us. I talked about it back in camp. He had a really good camp and came in prepared. It showed tonight, the preparation. It is not easy to come in there in that situation.
I love it when he is ripping those pucks around the wall. Everything is hard. He battled in the net and made some good saves for us in the third period.
The Maple Leafs Are Already Without Goaltender Anthony Stolarz With An Injury
If Woll were to miss time, it would be the latest blow to Toronto’s goaltending.
Anthony Stolarz has not played since November 11, and Berube recently said that he hasn’t even been on the ice since then, raising additional concern that he may not be able to return any time soon.
Hildeby has only 13 games of NHL experience under his belt, but that number could soon go up if he has to start Toronto’s next game on Saturday against the divisional foe Montreal Canadiens.
