We finally have good news for Montreal Canadiens fans when it comes to the standings in the East.
There’s movement in the standings, as Martin St-Louis’ squad has officially passed the Detroit Red Wings and Senators to regain a playoff spot!
After falling out of a playoff position following the loss to the Ottawa Senators, the win against the Winnipeg Jets combined with the losses by the Senators and Red Wings has the Canadiens back in third place.
Things are moving fast in the Eastern Conference as the Canadiens climb the standings
“With a Wings shootout loss and a Sens regulation loss, the Habs remain 3rd in the Atlantic Division for now.”

It ended up being a very good night for the Habs in the NHL’s overall standings, even though they were off while other teams were back in action.
But here’s the important part.
The Metropolitan Division is so dominant that seven of the top eight teams in the East come from that division, including both Wild Card spots.
Which means it’s essential for a team like the Montreal Canadiens to stay in the top 3 of the division.
The race is extremely tight, and every point is already so important, especially in intra-division games like this Saturday night’s matchup against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Martin St-Louis’ squad currently has a record of 14 wins, 9 losses and 3 overtime losses (for a total of 31 points in 26 games), thanks largely to a brilliant start to the season.
The Leafs are currently on a three-game win streak and are only two points behind the Habs.
