What a battle for the Caps as their four game road trip came to an end. They ended up securing seven of eight possible points, which you’ll take all day. The Caps were already missing John Carlson and were getting Justin Sourdif back after a one game absence, then they lost Ryan Leonard to a pretty dirty hit in the first period. The Caps never gave up the lead the whole game as well. It was a great team game all around to grind that out.
Plus: The Caps were playing their third game in four days, were short handed, and lost their young stud that was on fire recently in the first period. Add to this they had to kill five penalties against the seventh best power play in the league. Even after all of that they grinded and fought hard to the end and came away with a point. That’s all you can ask for in your team.
Minus: Hard to nitpick too much given the situation, but it wasn’t great to let up a goal just thirteen seconds after making it 2-1. You never want to give up any momentum like that.
Capitals Player of the Game: This game really was a team game, the Caps didn’t rely on any one player, but Tom Wilson made his presence felt as a true leader. He started the game off with the opening goal then went the team lost Ryan Leonard early to a dirty hit he made sure the other team knew about it. He did not get in a fight but Jacob Trouba also turned it down. It was better for Wilson to be on the ice anyways than sitting for five minutes.
