The St. Louis Blues may be without their top goal-scorer for some time.

The team announced that forward Jordan Kyrou exited Saturday’s game against the Ottawa Senators with a lower-body injury and will not return.

Kyrou, 27, appeared to be in some discomfort after taking a hit from Ottawa forward Stephen Halliday during the first period. He required some assistance when leaving the ice.

The Toronto native leads the Blues with eight goals through 27 games played this season. He also has eight assists for 16 total points, which ranks second on the team behind Robert Thomas’ 17 points.

St. Louis hopes Kyrou won’t miss a significant amount of time, as they can ill afford to lose any offense from their lineup. The Blues rank 30th in the NHL with 2.54 goals per game, and the extended absence of a player like Kyrou would only weaken their already meager attack.

Selected 35th overall by St. Louis in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, Kyrou has spent his entire career with the Blues so far. After splitting time between the NHL and AHL over the first couple seasons of his professional career, Kyrou became a full-time NHLer in the 2020-21 season, when he put up 14 goals and 21 assists for 35 points in 55 games. He would quickly establish himself as a high-quality top-six forward, as he was named an All-Star in the 2021-22 season, in which he would notch 27 goals and 48 assists for 75 points in 74 games. He would then go on to register at least 30 goals and 30 assists in each of the next three seasons.

The Blues are currently in second-last place in the Central Division. After Saturday’s game in Ottawa, they’ll take the quick trip to visit the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday.
