Charlie McAvoy has been out recently after having facial surgery, and now he’s revealed that he has lost 20 pounds as a result.

Charlie McAvoy suffered an injury recently after being hit with the puck, and unfortunately, the Boston Bruins veteran had to have linear surgery on his face to get him back on the ice.

Now, he’s addressed the injury, the surgery and his potential return to the Bruins lineup, revealing several shocking facts about what he’s been through over the past few months.

Charlie McAvoy reveals he’s lost 20 pounds since his injury

One of the side effects of facial surgery for McAvoy has been his struggle to eat, as he has now revealed that he has lost 20 pounds since the surgery, as he wasn’t able to eat solid foods for a long time following the injury.

The diet, that’s the toughest part, is just trying to get what you need without being able to eat solid food. I lost a lot of weight, but working my way back now.

Thankfully, McAvoy is working his way back, and with his recent return to the locker room, Head Coach Marco Sturm has spoken glowingly about his veteran defenseman.

He’s great. I can’t say it enough, he’s such a big leader for our team, on and off the ice. We miss him every day. Just to have him around again, it puts everyone, a smile on their face, including us coaches. He’s one of the best defensemen in the League, I think, and to see him hurt like that, it hurt all of us. That’s why we can’t wait to have him back.

It’s unclear exactly when McAvoy will be back in the Bruins lineup as he needs to get back to 100% before he’s confident in taking the ice again, and as of right now, it’s safe to say that it’s not been easy for the veteran after some tough luck with injuries in recent times.
