ALPENA COUNTY, Mich,. (WPBN/WGTU) – – The Alpena 45ers hockey team is combined semi-pro action with holiday charity this weekend.
The team hosted the Cheboygan Wendigo on Saturday night at Northern Lights Arena.
The event also served as a Christmas toy drive, with fans encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate.
Those who brought a toy received 50% off their ticket.
Myles Grix, owner and head coach of the 45ers, expressed his affection for the community, saying, “I love this community. I know the team’s only been here for two years. I’ve lived here for eight years, and my son was born here, so Alpena is a part of my heart. And I love to give back when I can.”
The evening featured a teddy bear toss and a visit from Santa.
