The New Jersey Devils have reportedly called up Vancouver Canucks regarding captain Quinn Hughes, who they’ve been linked to for several months now.

Trade talks around the National Hockey League are beginning to heat up ahead of the holiday roster freeze, which goes into effect on Saturday, December 20th and for the Vancouver Canucks, they’re hoping to be in on the action as several of their players are now available on the market.

“I don’t think anything is going on with Quinn Hughes right now… I do think Detroit would be a potential match if the time ever comes.” Friedman said recently

New Jersey Devils reportedly call Vancouver Canucks regarding captain Quinn Hughes

During the Saturday Headlines segment of Hockey Night in Canada, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that the New Jersey Devils called the Vancouver Canucks at some point recently to discuss Quinn Hughes.

However Friedman added that nothing is imminent on Quinn Hughes, who has been linked to the New Jersey Devils frequently since mid-April when President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford revealed that the Canucks captain has expressed in eventually playing with his brothers at some point in his NHL career.

“Once Vancouver announced they were open for business, sent that email around to the league, I do believe there was a conversation, at least one, between the New Jersey Devils and Canucks about Quinn Hughes and I stress, I do not believe there is anything imminent, I don’t even know that they’re anywhere far along. But I do believe that conversation was had about where things stand and where they might be going.” Friedman said.

Given that it might not be too far along in talks or if talks are even still ongoing between the two sides, Elliotte Friedman said that he’s unsure at this time who would be a part of the potential package going back to the Vancouver Canucks.

Based on what’s been suggested in rumors over the last couple of weeks, a couple of names to keep an eye on from the New Jersey Devils are centerman Dawson Mercer and 2022 second overall pick Simon Nemec, who would come in and play in a 2C and top-four role, respectively.

Only time will tell what Patrik Allvin plans on doing with Quinn Hughes, but as rumors heat up, it certainly feels like we could be entering the final few months of the former Norris Trophy winner with the Vancouver Canucks.
