ORONO, Maine – Junior forward Nick Ring (Hingham, Mass.), junior alternate captain J.P. Turner (East Falmouth, Mass.) and sophomore defenseman Josh Player (Thorofare, N.J.) each scored for the Wildcats as the University of New Hampshire men’s hockey team defeated No. 11 Maine, 3-2, on Saturday evening at Alfond Arena in the Border Battle presented by Buffalo Wild Wings.
The Wildcats sweep the series as UNH won 1-0 on Friday. The last time UNH swept a two-game series versus Maine at Alfond Arena was Feb. 8-9, 2008, with 3-2 and 4-1 wins.
Senior goalie Kyle Chauvette (Goffstown, N.H.) made 28 saves to earn the win.
The Wildcats, who have won four consecutive games, improve to 9-7-0 (5-4-0 Hockey East), while the Black Bears fall to 8-7-1 (5-5-0 Hockey East).

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Black Bears took an early 1-0 lead at 2:47 of the first period when Josh Nadeau knocked in the puck to the lower glove side of the net off a pass by Brandon Holt.
The Wildcats then tied the game at 6:44 when sophomore forward Cam MacDonald (Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia) stole the puck at Maine’s blue line leaving it for Ring, who fired a shot from the left circle top shelf over the glove of Albin Boija. The goal by Ring was his third of the season.
UNH went up 2-1 at 9:18 of the second period when Turner blasted a one-timer stick side off a pass by freshman forward Jacob Newcombe (Sambro, Nova Scotia) for his second goal of the year. Freshman defenseman Nick De Angelis (King City, Ontario) also posted an assist.
Then at 11:59, Player scored his first collegiate goal when he sent a shot from the right circle that deflected off Boija to the back of the net. Senior captain Morgan Winters (Osprey, Fla.) and junior defenseman Brendan Fitzgerald (North Reading, Mass.) each tallied an assist.
The Black Bears cut the deficit to 3-2 at 4:33 of the third period when Holt scored on a wrist shot.
Maine went with an empty net with 1:57 remaining in the third period but was unable to find the equalizer for the 3-2 final score.

Maine outshot UNH, 29-17
Each team went 0-2 on the power play.
Chauvette posted 28 saves for the Wildcats, while Boija made 11 saves during the first two periods for Maine and Mathis Rousseau recorded three in the third period.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
This was the 21st time the Wildcats have won at Alfond Arena.
The goal by Player was also his first collegiate point.
UNH is 7-3-0 on the road this season.
The Wildcats are 4-3-0 versus nationally ranked teams this year.
Head coach Mike Souza recorded his 100th win.
