A potential second line center option has emerged for the Vancouver Canucks after a former first round pick was placed on the trade block over the weekend.

The Vancouver Canucks might be focused on getting younger after making their pending unrestricted free agents and some veteran players available at the end of November, but there’s no question that General Manager Patrik Allvin is going to consider all of his options ahead of the National Hockey League’s trade deadline on March 6th.

With less than three months to go until trade deadline day, an intriguing second line center option has been made available to Patrik Allvin and other teams around the NHL, and it’s going to be very interesting to see if the Canucks GM shows any interest.

Former first round pick made available to Vancouver Canucks & other teams on trade market

In a social media post on Saturday afternoon, National Hockey League insider Frank Seravalli revealed that Los Angeles Kings centerman Phillip Danault is drawing interest around the league amid his slow start to the 2025-26 season and it could be time for a fresh start for the former first round pick, who is in his fifth season in the City of Angels.

Sources: Trade chatter is picking up around #LAKings center Phil Danault. Multiple teams have inquired with LA on his availability, Danault has emerged as a target amid thin center market. Seravalli said.

Danault, a native of Victoriaville, Quebec, is having a tough season thus far with just five assists under his belt in 28 games and with one more year remaining on his contract beyond the 2025-26 campaign with a cap hit of $5.5 million USD, there’s no doubt there will be plenty of interest due to the lack of centers available, as Seravalli mentions.

The 32-year-old has appeared in 739 regular season games with Chicago, Montreal and Los Angeles, as well as 62 in the playoffs, a third of which came during the Canadiens’ run to the Stanley Cup Final in 2021.

As mentioned, Vancouver’s goal is to get younger, but Patrik Allvin also wants this group to remain competitive next season and someone like Phillip Danault can be of use to them, especially in the faceoff dot and on the penalty kill, two areas that not only does he excel in, but the Canucks need some help in too.
