The Edmonton Oilers will lose forward Connor Clattenburg to injury for at least the next week, says Coach Knoblauch.
Clattenburg has quickly become a fan favourite in Edmonton for his hard-nosed and energetic style of play. The 20 year old rookie doesn’t play much minutes, but he’s made an impact in short spurts.
Connor Clattenburg will miss around 1 week with injury after high stick vs Seattle
After last night’s game, Coach Knoblauch did confirm Clattenburg will miss some time with the injury.
It was a strange play to knock out a player for a week, but immediately this seemed worse than most high-sticks. Clattenburg rushed off the ice and went straight down the tunnel.
The stick seemed to have caught him up near his eye, which is a terrifying feeling in hockey. He required stitches, but there may also be some swelling in the eye area that could keep him out a bit longer than usual for a cut.
When Clattenburg was called up, there was some concern for analysts about him being prone to injury. This is a freak accident, but his physical style of play opens up to more chance of injury.
Judging by Coach Knoblauch’s extremely vague injury timelines this year too, fans are worried about Clattenburg’s return.
Hopefully Clattenburg recovers quickly from these stitches and any other problems, and can get back into the lineup quickly. He’s a loose rocket on skates that really was impacting games from the 4th line – the Oilers look like they have a real player here.
