ESPN’s Greg Wyshynski put forward a hypothetical scenario in which the Detroit Red Wings acquire the Hughes brothers; here’s why it surprisingly makes sense.

All fans dream of seeing their favorite teams make blockbuster acquisitions that could make them champions.

In the NHL, big deals have happened in the past; just think of Mikko Rantanen being traded twice last year.

This year, a lot of the big names were taken off the board early in the season: Connor McDavid, Kirill Kaprizov, Jack Eichel, Lane Hutson, and Kyle Connor all signed extensions with their respective organizations.

But in recent weeks, another key player has been involved in rumors: none other than Quinn Hughes.

The Vancouver Canucks are having another tough season, and with the captain set to hit free agency after next season, management won’t take any chances if he doesn’t want to sign an extension; they will look to trade Hughes.

The New Jersey Devils and the Detroit Red Wings have been at the center of all the rumors.

In Jersey, the other two brothers, Jack and Luke, make the Devils an enticing destination for Quinn.

But on paper, the Detroit Red Wings are also an important contender on the market; they have quality trade assets and a lot of cap space.

On X, Greg Wyshynski wrote a scenario that suggests the Hughes brothers could reunite under the same organization: the Red Wings.

Greg Wyshynski Hints At Hughes Reunion: Here’s Why Detroit Makes Sense

The ESPN reporter stated that Quinn’s decision on free agency should be a massive hint at Jack Hughes’ plans when he seeks a new contract.

If the Red Wings end up acquiring Quinn in a trade and convince him to sign a long-term deal in 2027, Jack could come over to Detroit in 2030:

This is only theoretical, but it makes sense.

Luke’s eight-year contract in New Jersey could also come into Quinn’s considerations, but trade scenarios will undoubtedly flow if his brothers reunite elsewhere, even if the idea of seeing him play for another team seems far-fetched for now.

There’s no denying that such maneuvering would propel any general manager to Jim Gregory Award candidacy.

Going on that path doesn’t seem like Steve Yzerman’s usual style, but given the Red Wings’ current position in the Quinn Hughes stakes, he has to at least do what it takes to make sure he doesn’t close the door on that hypothetical scenario.
