After their 3-2 loss to the Colorado Avalanche, the Philadelphia Flyers hit the ice at the Flyers Training Center in Voorhees, New Jersey.

No long intro today, just getting into the information.

First, the attendance list. There was only one absentee: Cam York. York has not skated with the Flyers since exiting the team’s 12/3 matchup with the Buffalo Sabres in the 2nd period. That makes Monday York’s second missed practice, missing a game in between.

Rasmus Ristolainen did practice with the Flyers once again. This time, he did it in a regular contact sweater.

He has been practicing since the beginning of the month. Monday marked the first time he did so in a full-contact jersey. This is not an indicator that he will be activated off injured reserve for Tuesday’s game vs. the Sharks, or even by the end of the week. However, it is a positive sign that his rehab is trending in the right direction.

The forward lines remained the same on Monday, with Nick Deslauriers once again looking like he’ll stay in the lineup, with Carl Grundstrom mixing in the fourth line. However, Tocchet did shake things up on defense during practice.

Assuming that Ristolainen will not be activated 24 hours after he took contact for the first time since his injury, it sure looks like Ty Murchison could be making his NHL debut on Tuesday night vs. the San Jose Sharks.

Murchison was a 5th-round pick of the Flyers back in 2021. He played four years at Arizona State, where he wore the “A” in his final season. He won the 2025 NCHC Defensive Defenseman of the Year award.

Murchison had his first media scrum outside of his stall on Monday after practice, where he joked around, saying he did not know whether to stand or stay seated.

During the practice itself, the emphasis was on missed opportunities. That was the main area of focus after the team’s loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday.

“You try to take advantage of a tired team. We didn’t because we had missed opportunities. So many missed opportunities, even with the goalie pulled, even that power play, that’s where we have to get better,” said Tocchet after practice.

The Flyers’ bench boss said they had a presentation on the missed opportunities and worked on those things. Tocchet mentioned the power play. The Flyers had another power-play meeting that emptied the locker room pretty quickly after practice.

Tocchet on Flyers’ Monday practice:

“Our presentation [was on] missed opportunities. That’s what I love about this group. We had a really spirited practice, and they own it. I mean, it was a good practice today, and they understand. But it’s hard. You’re under pressure. You kind of lose the sun sometimes, you know? Colorado has three guys high; why would you hide with it now? You take it to the net. These are the things that under pressure we have that should organically happen, and we’re trying to find that. There have been pockets this year. I mean, we’ve got a pretty good record. I don’t think we’re satisfied, but I think we had a pretty good record, and we’ve had pockets of our game where we’re like, we like our team, but there are pockets of our game where we’ve got to get to another level if we want to go where we want to go.”

The Flyers are back in action on Tuesday when they host Macklin Celebrini, Will Smith, and the San Jose Sharks at 7:00 p.m. EST in South Philly.
