PHILADELPHIA — Carl Grundstrom scored against his former team as the Philadelphia Flyers beat the San Jose Sharks 4-1 at Xfinity Mobile Arena on Tuesday.

Grundstrom’s goal was the first in his Flyers career. San Jose traded the winger just before the season to acquire retired defenseman Ryan Ellis. Noah Cates and Christian Dvorak (1G-1A) also scored for Philadelphia, who have won three of their past five games. Travis Konecny registered his 500th and 501st career points with a goal and an assist. Dan Vladar made 17 saves.

Collin Graf scored for the Sharks, who have lost three of their past four games. Will Smith and John Klingberg assisted on Graf’s goal, which happened on the Sharks first shot of the game. Alex Nedeljkovic started for the San Jose Sharks and made 24 saves.

Yaroslav Askarov appeared to be the projected starter, but wasn’t present for morning skate due to illness. The Sharks ended up having to sign Justin Kowalkoski to an ATO and dress him as the backup goalie.

The Sharks were frustrated the entire night by the Flyers stingy defense. Philadelphia slowed down the Sharks through the neutral zone and were aggressive along the boards, not letting Team Teal breathe at any moment.

Ryan Reaves returned to the lineup for the Sharks, after sitting the previous two games for general injury related reasons.

Graf put the Sharks up 1-0 at 11:33 into the first period on their first shot on goal. Will Smith found John Klingberg with a pretty cross-ice pass, and then the defenseman made the extra pass to Graf in the slot for the easy goal.

Dvorak tied the game 1-1 at 18:38. Travis Konecny flipped the puck high, it deflected off Trevor Zegras’s shoulder and past Sam Dickinson. Dvorak then raced in on a breakaway and went forehand, backhand on Nedeljkovic.

Grundstrom gave the Flyers a 2-1 lead at 3:20 of the second period. Nick Seeler’s shot from the point was tipped by Grundstrom below the glove of Nedeljkovic.

Cates put the Flyers up 3-1 with 11.8 seconds left in the period. After taking a pass on the left wing, Cates fired a wrist shot by the blocker of Nedeljkovic.

Konecny added an empty net goal at 18:16
