After the Flyers’ 4-1 win vs. the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday, the team held practice at the Flyers Training Center in Voorhees, New Jersey, on Wednesday. Starting on Thursday, Philadelphia starts a stretch of three games in four days, and four in six.
The team held a short but not-so-sweet practice, with high-intensity rush drills and some power-play work at the end. Practice lasted just a bit over 30 minutes.
During the rushes, they were uncontested. Three forwards, two defenders, trying to score on a goalie. Nothing crazy happened during the rushes. They ended with power-play work on the other end of the ice, and again, nothing super noteworthy happened.
The drills were simple, but the Flyers kept the intensity high.
Despite all of that, the energy was high too. The team was loose. Maybe that had to do with a big win, maybe not. This has been a common theme in practices all season.
There was one moment where Travis Sanheim got caught by the practice snipers, and man, did he hear it from his teammates. The benches were hollering and banging their sticks on the boards as Sanheim got back up.
The shenanigans continued in the locker room, with Travis Konecny and Bobby Brink messing around after practice. This team is tight, having fun, and playing some pretty good hockey right now.
“It’s easy for the guy [whose] season is going good for him. You know, the guy scoring, it’s easy to be a good guy. It’s the guys that are having a tough time, say they’re not playing as well, or they’re not playing as many minutes. When they’re doing it, you know you got something.”
That was head coach Rick Tocchet talking about the team’s spirit and how everyone in the room has created that positive culture. He continued by saying, “When you’re losing, that’s when you really test the character of people, or when things are not going right. [When] things don’t go right with our team, I see them trying to pick each other up.”

Flyers lines & pairs at practice
In the drills, the Flyers did not shake things up from Tuesday’s win. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. In case you missed yesterday’s lines, here is what they ran in practice.
Forwards
Trevor Zegras–Christian Dvorak–Travis Konecny
Matvei Michkov–Sean Couturier–Owen Tippett
Nikita Grebenkin–Noah Cates–Bobby Brink
Carl Grundstrom–Rodrigo Abols–Garnet Hathaway
Nick Deslauriers
Defensemen
Nick Seeler–Travis Sanheim
Emil Andrae-Jamie Drysdale
Ty Murchison-Noah Juulsen
Cam York-Egor Zamula
Rasmus Ristolainen
PP1: Sanheim, Zegras, Michkov, Konecny, Tippett
PP2: Andrae, Drysdale, Couturier, Cates, Brink
From the groups, it looks like there is a good chance the Flyers run back the same units from Tuesday.
For the forwards, it was clear that Carl Grundstrom, who scored against the Sharks, looks like he will get another look in the lineup vs. Vegas. Nick Deslauriers skated at practice, but did not rotate in on rushes.
As for the defense, Cam York returned to practice in a regular contact jersey, but did not skate in his regular top-pair role with Travis Sanheim, and did not take reps with the power play units. There is still a chance he draws back in for Thursday’s game vs. Vegas. York did join the team at the morning skate on Tuesday in a non-contact jersey. However, based on the fact that Ty Murchison skated with Noah Juulsen in what was clearly the third pair, it seems as if the rookie is getting another look.
It is worth mentioning that since York was never placed on IR, the Flyers don’t have to make a roster move if York is ready to go on Thursday.
Rasmus Ristolainen skated again on Wednesday in a regular contact jersey. However, he did not have a partner at practice and did not rotate in. It is very clear that the Flyers are still trying to get him up to speed before activating him off injured reserve.
The Flyers host the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. EST at Xfinity Mobile Arena.
