Calvin Pickard and Stuart Skinner

With each game that passes for Edmonton without acquiring a goaltender to replace Calvin Pickard, Oilers’ strategy becomes clearer and more obvious.

The Oilers may have already acquired the goalie who will accompany Stuart Skinner during next spring’s playoffs. Connor Ingram hasn’t played for the Oilers yet, but that day should come between now and the deadlineChances are that the Oilers will bring Ingram in for a significant look in the next couple of months

AHL goalie could get a look by Oilers’ management

Connor Ingram was acquired more for what he’d done in the past and his potential, than anything he’d recently done, given he hadn’t played since early in the 2024-25 season.

Over his 102-game NHL career, Ingram has shown he has the talent to succeed, including his stint in the AHL with Bakersfield this year.

Now, it’s a question of getting a good look for Ingram with the Oilers before the trade-deadline.

According to analyst Allan Mitchell, Edmonton has explored several options this year, Jarry, Binnington and Arturs Silovs to name only three.

Yet, none have panned-out, mainly because of cap- and/or roster-restrictions.

The Oilers are cap tight and right now they’ve got a lot of injuries and guys just in and out and they’re barely carrying extra players.

I’m told that that has made that trade almost impossible to do…they can’t do it [trade for a goalie] in their present situation unless bodies go out.

Putting Connor Ingram between the pipes in Edmonton is the obvious next play.

The NHL trade-freeze is December 19 and unfreezes December 30th.

The trade deadline is March 7. That gives the Oilers a little more than 2 months to figure-out its goalie situation for the playoffs.
