TORONTO — Alexander Wennberg scored the game-winning goal in overtime with 2:11 remaining as the San Jose Sharks defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2 at Scotiabank Arena on Thursday.

Wennberg put home William Eklund’s rebound to score the overtime winning goal and complete the come-from-behind win.

Dmitry Orlov scored his first goal as a member of the San Jose Sharks in the second period. John Klingberg had a goal and an assist to give him a three-game point streak (2G-3A-4P), and Alex Nedeljkovic made 28 saves.

Auston Matthews and Dakota Joshua scored for the Maple Leafs, who have a 4-1-1 record in their last six games. Dennis Hildeby was terrific for Toronto, stopping 29 shots.

Yaroslav Askarov was able to dress as the backup goalie after he was unable to do so in Philadelphia on Tuesday. Ryan Reaves returned to Toronto for the first time since he was traded. Henry Thrun, whom the Sharks traded to acquire Reaves, was recalled from the AHL and made his Maple Leafs debut.

Sam Dickinson had over 80 friends and family members in attendance for tonight’s game. The Sharks’ defenseman is a native of Toronto.

Joshua put the Maple Leafs up 1-0 at 14:32 of the first period. Jake McCabe’s shot from the left wing deflected off Joshua’s stick, off Timothy Liljegren, and past Nedeljkovic.

Matthews pushed the lead to 2-0 at 14:32 of the second period with a power play goal. William Nylander fed a perfect cross-ice pass to Matthews on the left wing for an easy one-timer goal.

Orlov cut the lead to 2-1 at 15:31 with his first goal for the Sharks. John Klingberg fed Orlov down the left wing, and his wrist shot beat Hildeby over the blocker.

Klingberg tied the game 2-2 with 1:25 left in the third period. Klingberg’s shot from the point beat Hildeby over the glove.
